The Benefits of a Used Car Pre-purchase Inspection

It might be tempting to skip a pre-purchase inspection of the used car you’ve got your eye on because the dealer has certified it. This being said, the dealer also wants to sell the vehicle. The primary objective of the dealer is to get the automobile off the lot. As such, it’s an excellent idea to have us inspect the vehicle before you buy it. We are an independent and experienced auto shop that will make certain you are not about to purchase a lemon that will bring you nothing but heartache.

It Checks for Damage

One of the things that our pre-purchase inspection does is check the automobile for unreported damage. This includes accident damage that may not have been reported, flood damage that may not have been reported, and fire damage that may not have been reported.

It is important to keep in mind that the previous vehicle owner may not have reported an incident to his or her insurance company because he or she did not want to deal with the claim process and increased premiums. As such, we will look for damage that has been repaired.

It Checks All Vehicle Systems

We will also take the vehicle apart, figuratively, system by system to make sure every system is in excellent condition. You do not want to buy a used automobile that has a problem such as an electrical system issue or a brake system issue.

We inspect everything to ensure that everything is up-to-date. For example, if the dealer certified the used car, it should not have any preventative maintenance due or a need for any necessary repairs. This includes things such as old and worn brake pads or spark plugs.

It Includes a Diagnostic Test

We will also take the pre-purchase inspection one step further and conduct a diagnostic test on the used automobile. The diagnostic test downloads all of the data in the main computer chip, which is called the engine control unit. This data is quite revealing.

Included in the data will be any error codes sent to the unit by the system sensors. This allows us to ensure that the used vehicle does not have any problems that are invisible to the naked eye. If the diagnostic test comes back clear, there aren’t any hidden issues.

Call us today to schedule an appointment for a pre-purchase inspection. We will check the vehicle from the roof to the tires to make sure you are getting an excellent deal.
