Stay Cool in Your Big Rig As the Weather Heats Up

It’s going to be summer before you know it and few things are more difficult than a long haul in the summer heat. Midlane Truck & Trailer Repair can service your big rig to make sure it doesn’t break down in the hot weather. We can also make certain that the cab stays comfortable even while you are driving in scorching afternoon conditions. Let’s talk about the various ways you can stay cool in your big rig as the weather starts to heat up in the spring and summer.

Have the AC Serviced Now

Bring your rig to our shop now to have the air conditioning system serviced. We will make sure that all of the parts, including the condenser and compressor, are working as they should be without a chance of breaking down. We will also check the refrigerant level in the system to make sure it isn’t too low. If the refrigerant needs to be topped off or replaced, we will do so.

Make Sure to Pack Plenty of Water

It’s also important to ensure you have plenty of water while you are on your haul. Water is the best way to keep your body hydrated and your internal temperature low. Avoid dehydrating beverages such as caffeinated or sugary beverages. Make sure to consume plenty of water throughout the day to ensure that you do not get dehydrated behind the wheel.

Stop and Take Cool-Off Breaks

Make sure to take plenty of breaks so you can use the restroom and cool off. For example, stop for a moment and head into a convenience store to enjoy the air-conditioned air. You can also stop at truck stops where the restrooms are inside so, again, you can be in air-conditioned air temporarily. Plan to eat in places that are also air-conditioned.

Wear Cotton or Other Breathable Clothing

It’s also important to wear breathable clothing that will help keep your body cooler. For example, wear cotton T-shirts or cotton button-down shirts instead of polyester, rayon, or other non-breathable materials. The same is true for your pants or shorts. Wear breathable materials to keep your legs cooler so you don’t overheat while you are driving.

Snack on Hydrating Fruits

Finally, you can add to your hydration by snacking on hydrating fruits. For example, fruits such as watermelons, other melons, and pineapple contain a lot of water that will add to your body’s hydration. Avoid sugary snacks or snacks that contain caffeine, such as chocolate, to prevent dehydrating your body.
