Signs the Fuel System Is Clogged in Your Semi-Truck

The last thing that you need is a clogged fuel system when you are on a route. It’s important to have your semi-truck’s fuel system inspected regularly to make sure the fuel filter and fuel hoses do not need to be replaced. It’s also important to have the fuel injectors professionally cleaned so they do not get clogged. Here are signs that you’ve got a clog in the fuel system of your semi-truck.

Difficult Starts

It makes perfect sense that it is difficult to start the big rig if there is a clog in the fuel system. Unfortunately, the diesel fuel may have a difficult time getting past the clog and, as such, you don’t have enough fuel in the combustion chamber. Bring your truck to our shop if you are having difficulties getting it started. We will locate the clog in the fuel system and fix it.

Misfiring/Stalling

Unfortunately, a clog in the fuel system can also cause the diesel engine to misfire and stall. If, when you start out on your route, the engine is misfiring noticeably, head to our shop. You need to address the misfiring right away in order to ensure you don’t get stranded on your route. If the misfiring gets worse, you may have a constant problem with your truck’s engine stalling.

Rough Idling

One of the best ways to determine whether the engine is misfiring is to pay attention to how the truck feels when you are sitting at an idle. If the idle is rough, the engine is misfiring. Listen carefully because you may also be able to hear the engine cut out as it misfires. This is definitely a sign that you have a fuel-delivery problem in the engine that needs to be addressed right away.

Whining Noises

You may also want to listen carefully for whining noises coming from the fuel tank. If there is a problem with the fuel system being clogged, the fuel pump may have to work harder than it normally does to push the fuel into the engine. When the fuel pump works too hard, the motor may start to whine.

Fuel Pump Malfunction

Unfortunately, this can leave you with a dead fuel pump while you are on your route. The harder the fuel pump motor works the more it wears down. This can cause the fuel pump to malfunction prematurely. In fact, it can cause the motor to break down completely.

Again, bring your rig to our shop if you suspect that the fuel system is clogged.
